She said: "We're probably just far too protective..."

She meant: "You should take better care of your child."

I wish I had the confidence not to worry about the undercurrents of criticism in other mothers' comments.


  1. Maybe she meant 'You are such a confident mother who allows her child to live life to the full. I wish I were like you'.

  2. Ask yourself - would you want her child? No, thought not. You're doing a great job - and part of that job is to teach them to engage, safely, with the world

  3. John looks in one piece to me!

    I saw a kid at the ice rink today - his mother and he were wearing cycle helmets. But I think we were having more fun. Sometimes the risks are fine to take.
